Help Build a School in Mali

By Merritt Frey, Executive Director

Builders’ Society members make it possible for an average of 175 kids to attend school each year with each new school they build.

Did you know you could be part of building a school in Mali that will change thousands of lives. Well you can! By making a gift to Mali Rising’s Builders’ Society, you can be part of something truly big — school-sized big!

Members of the Builders' Society are dedicated to increasing access to education for the children of Mali. This group of passionate supporters joins together to build schools in remote villages, where children previously face a one-way trip of 3 to 5 miles -- or more -- to get to school each day. As a practical matter, this bars most children from attending school.

Some Builders’ Society members , School Sponsors, donate the cost of an entire school — $50,000. That generous donation will build 3 classrooms, a principal’s office, and 6 latrines while also stocking the schools with desks, an initial round of textbooks, and more. School Sponsors receive naming rights for the school so they can honor a loved one, a business, or whatever they choose. School Sponsors receive regular updates on their school’s construction and get to know the village and the students who are learning and growing in the school.

But not everyone has $50,000 to give, so the Builders’ Society is also a way to leverage your donation with other donors. These Society funds are pooled to build a new school that helps an average of 175 children change their lives for the better each and every year. Donors can underwrite an entire classroom ($10,000), the principal’s office ($6,000), a latrine ($1,000), or a set of textbooks ($500). These Builders’ Society levels also allow you to be part of the construction process and to get to know the students and village that is home to your school.
